1. OWAA Bodie McDowell Scholarship – Up to $5,000 – Apply by March 30th

The Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) offers the Bodie McDowell Scholarship for students who aim to work in the outdoor communications sphere, including print, photography, film, art, poetry, and broadcasting.

2. CINTAS Fellowship in Creative Writing – $25,000 – Apply by May 1st

Applicants must submit writing samples, two letters of recommendation, an artists statement detailing their personal history and development as an artist, and a project statement detailing a project they would undertake if they received the grant.

3. YoungArts National Arts Competition – Up to $10,000 – Apply by October 8th

Sponsored by YoungArts, an organization supporting young artists, the YoungArts National Arts Competition is an annual event for students who are 15-18 years old or in grades 10 through 12. Students must apply in one of the 10 approved categories to win up to $10,000 and the opportunity to be named a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts.

4. Wergle Flomp Humor Poetry Contest – $1,000 – Apply by April 1

Write a funny poem and receive a $1,000 scholarship.

5. Mike Reynolds Scholarship – $1,000 – Apply by October 22nd

Sponsored by the RTDNA Foundation, the Mike Reynolds Scholarship is an annual prize awarded to an undergraduate journalism student with strong writing skills, great grades, and an interest in pursuing a career in electronic journalism.

6. Taylor/Blakeslee University Fellowships – $6,000 – Apply by March 16th

Offered by the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing (CASW), Taylor/Blakeslee University Fellowships are annually awarded to working journalists and outstanding students who have been accepted for enrollment in graduate-level programs in science writing.

7. Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest – Up to $10,000 – Apply by January 20th

Applicants may choose their essay topic, provided that it explores an ethical problem, question, issue, or concern.
