Offered by Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, the Otis M. Smith Scholarship is a $3,000 award to provide educational scholarships to single mothers seeking postsecondary degrees at selected academic institutions. Applicant must be a resident of Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb counties in Michigan; must be pursuing postsecondary education at the Columbus College of Law at Catholic University of America, any campus of the University of Michigan, or any campus of Wayne State University; must be a single mother (divorced or unmarried mother still parenting a child or children); must demonstrate financial need and efforts to contribute to household and educational expenses through employment or attempts to gain employment; must exhibit exemplary character, leadership, and a desire to achieve higher education; must show academic ability to be successful in postsecondary education. Recipients may reapply for subsequent years.
