Offered by the Native American Journalists Association (NAJA) and the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA), the IJA-AAJA Pacific Islander Scholarship supports Pacific Islander students and journalists in their careers. The organizations will award up to two scholarships of $5,000, as well as one-year student memberships to IJA and AAJA. Applicants “should show a commitment to journalism and storytelling that would strengthen news coverage and representation of Indigenous peoples of the Pacific, particularly Polynesians, Micronesians, and Melanesians.” The scholarship funds may be used for any purpose related to advancing a journalism career, including covering salary and expenses for students with summer internships at news organizations, tuition for students pursuing higher education with the intent to enter the journalism field, paying off student loan balances for journalists currently working in the news industry, and supporting professional development and training opportunities.
