Karen Mashburn Environmental Scholarship

Amount: $10,000. About: Offered by Friends of the Everglades, the Karen Mashburn Environmental Scholarship is a $10,000 award to support one students studies through a $10,000 scholarship and offer an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience beyond the regular course of study. The scholarship recipient will participate in a 14-week fall internship at Friends of the Everglades, helping to support the Young Friends of the Everglades program and engage in community outreach. To qualify, undergraduate and masters degree students in the South Florida and Treasure Coast regions – U.S. Citizens and permanent residents enrolled in a U.S.-based institution – Demonstrated financial need – Intellectual pursuits include environmental studies, education, and/or science curriculum – GPA of at least 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 – Demonstrated commitment to environmental education and conservation through volunteering, advocacy, projects, or other activities – Ability to pass a Level Two background check required by all school districts to go into public schools – Participation in the Fall 2024 internship detailed below Internship Requirements – In-Person at Friends of the Everglades offices in Stuart, Florida – 14 weeks during the Fall 2024 semester – 15 hours per week – Completion of a Capstone Project.
