About this internship
Tesla is hiring an Embedded Software Engineer Intern for Firmware Platforms for Winter/Spring 2026 in Palo Alto, CA, with on-site work. In this role, youβll likely help develop and maintain firmware, working in both bare-metal and RTOS environments while applying strong software design and maintainability practices. Qualifications
Required
- Pursuing a Degree in Computer Science or related field with a graduation date between 2026-2027
- Experience writing firmware in both a bare-metal and RTOS context
- Strong software fundamentals including software design and maintainability
Nice to have
- Comfort reading and improving existing embedded firmware code with an emphasis on maintainability.
- Ability to clearly document design decisions and communicate tradeoffs in firmware/platform work.
- Experience applying structured software design practices (e.g., modularity and well-defined interfaces) in embedded projects.
- Familiarity moving between low-level, bare-metal code and RTOS-based components within the same codebase.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a methodical approach to isolating and fixing firmware issues.
