NFL PLAY 60 Fitness Break Energizes Kids With Fun Physical Activity Ahead of Super Bowl LIX

The American Heart Association and NFL have launched the NFL PLAY 60 Fitness Break, an engaging broadcast encouraging children to be active ahead of Super Bowl LIX, involving teams like the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs.

As the anticipation for Super Bowl LIX mounts, the American Heart Association and the National Football League (NFL) are adding an empowering twist for kids nationwide. In collaboration with all 32 NFL clubs, this dynamic duo is introducing the latest installment of the NFL PLAY 60 Fitness Break broadcast series, aimed at motivating elementary school students to incorporate physical activity into their lives.

Set for Thursday, Feb. 5 at 1 p.m. ET/ 12 p.m. CT/ 10 a.m. PT, the action-packed 15-minute synchronous streaming broadcast will feature appearances from the New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. This initiative encourages children to stay active during their day, especially as they gear up for one of the biggest sporting events in the world.

“For a century, meeting kids where they are on a path of lifelong health and wellness is a core value of the American Heart Association, and we are excited to continue that work,” Nancy Brown, chief executive officer at the American Heart Association, said in a news release. “Partnering with the NFL through NFL PLAY 60 brings innovative and engaging ways to inspire kids to get active, supporting both mental and physical health, as they learn and develop skills that can lead to a longer, healthier life.”

NFL PLAY 60, rooted in the American Heart Association’s science, underscores the vital connection between play and physical well-being. This broadcast will educate students on integrating movement into daily games and activities, fostering a lifelong habit of exercise.

Adding to the excitement, 32 national grant winners of the NFL PLAY 60 Daily Movement Moment Challenge will be announced. These winners will each receive $1,000 grants for purchasing physical activity equipment.

The broadcast is a continued effort following the successful NFL PLAY 60 Fitness Break Kickoff in September.

Previous broadcasts are accessible through the NFL PLAY 60 Exercise Library, which also hosts short, on-demand exercise videos from each of the 32 NFL teams, featuring players, legends, cheerleaders and mascots. This comprehensive digital resource supports parents, teachers and caregivers in promoting daily physical movement for children.

The American Heart Association highlights that kids need at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity each day to adhere to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.

Physical activity not only decreases the risk of chronic health conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes, but also enhances sleep, cognitive functions and overall life quality for children.

“As the world turns its attention to Super Bowl LIX, we are proud to team up with the American Heart Association to share the importance of developing healthy habits with our youth,” added Anna Isaacson, senior vice president of social responsibility at the NFL. “Physical activity is critical for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and the NFL PLAY 60 fitness break continues to be a fun and engaging way to inspire kids to get moving before the big game.”

On the eve of Super Bowl LIX, the NFL and the American Heart Association will also host the annual NFL PLAY 60 Kids Day at Pan American Stadium in New Orleans on Wednesday, Feb. 5. This exclusive event will see 1,000 students participating in football-themed skills, drills and Hands-Only CPR training.

Since 2006, the NFL and the American Heart Association have worked together to encourage children to stay active through engaging initiatives like NFL PLAY 60. The collaboration continues to have a profound impact, inspiring children to integrate physical activity into their daily routines, leading to healthier and more vibrant lives.
