Top 3 Best Movies About College

When we’re seniors in high school, we’re bombarded with people telling us that college will be the best four years of our lives.

“You’ll be overwhelmed with opportunities and new friends and awesome adventures”, they say. The reality? Lots of coffee, ramen noodles and crying because we’re too broke to afford a spring break trip to Mexico. The only remedy is to remind ourselves of how important it is that we’re getting a degree. Oh, and watching college movies and pretending we’re in them doesn’t hurt either.

Here are my top 3 movies about those magical 4 years:

Pitch Perfect

Great music, cute boys and #squadgoals. What more could you ask for? Pitch Perfect is a movie that follows college freshman Beca as she joins an acapella group called the Barden Bellas. Not only is this movie pee-in-your-pants funny, but it also deals with real life college struggles like roommates and internships.

After watching this, you’ll totally want to join an acapella group.

What you can learn: It might sound cliche but clubs are actually the best way to meet new people and make lifelong friends. Find out what clubs are available at your school and sign up. Extracurricular activities that you actually enjoy? Amazing.

Legally Blonde

If you’re like me, you’ve been wishing you would wake up as Elle Woods for a couple of years now. She’s fabulous, extremely intelligent and a kick-butt law student! This movie is a classic because it encourages women in college, especially sorority sisters, to fight the harmful stereotypes and stigma attached to being in a male dominated area of study. Elle Woods should be an inspiration to us all because she proves women are worthy of more credit than they are given. You go girl!

What you can learn: College shouldn’t revolve around anyone but yourself. Elle had to realize that her loser boyfriend was only holding her back. She worked hard, got into a great school and accomplished her goals.

Monsters University

Okay…if you don’t like this movie, we can’t be friends. Everyone loves Mike Wazowski and Sully so it’s no surprise the movie that depicted their college years was such a hit. It’s a heartwarming story about friendship, loyalty and surviving the obstacles of college. Even if you’re not part of Greek life, you can still relate to not fitting in amongst your peers. But like Mike, we all find a place and group of people to call home. Every college student can relate to the various characters in this adorable flick.

What you can learn: The friends you make in college will be your lifelong friends. Hey, maybe one day you’ll even up working together. Mike and Sully 4 Ever.
