Frank Oppenheimer once famously said that “the best way to learn is to teach.” Today is your chance to prove this quote right with a scholarship contest to win $1,000. The Yust Gallery’s first annual contest is for creative students to teach their skills to others. By creating a fun how-to video, you can both help other people and potentially be awarded for doing so! Win-win, right?

Write a short essay explaining your ability or skill and why you are passionate about it, and then create a how-to video demonstrating your activity or skill.

Eligibility

  • Any graduating high school senior
  • Any currently enrolled (full or part-time) student at a college, trade school or university
  • Students in the following areas of study encouraged to apply: art, engineers, graphic designers, musicians, writers, designers, architects, film majors… but anyone who feels they have a teachable talent to showcase should apply!

How to Apply

  • Describe in a short 500 word essay what you will be demonstrating and why you are passionate about it.
  • Create your How-To video on YouTube (or Vimeo/other)
  • Copy/paste the following message as the first line of the video description: www.NicholasYust.com Yust Gallery ‘How To Create’ Scholarship Submission
  • Fill out a form on their website to validate your submission.

Quick Tips

  • Your skill or ability can be anything you are passionate about. From how to  create a logo on Photoshop to how to bake an amazing cake, it is up to you to decide what talent you wish to teach to the rest of the world.
  • Look at instructional videos on YouTube for ideas.
  • Your video doesn’t have to be a professional production, but try to make it look professional.
  • Promote your video on social media and notify your friends – higher attention may lead to a better judging score!
