If you’re passionate about making this a tobacco-free world, then this is the scholarship for you!

Eligibility:

  • This scholarship is offered nationwide to United States citizens.
  • To apply, you must be a full-time student at an accredited four-year or two-year university, community college or junior college, or a graduate degree program.
  • You have to be at least 18 years old.

How to Apply:

  • Write at least an 800 word essay on a relevant topic regarding the following prompt:

“Tobacco is unarguably the biggest avoidable cause of death in the world. In the U.S. alone, more than 40 million people smoke tobacco cigarettes – that’s almost 17% of the total population. According to World Health Organization, about 50% of tobacco users die because of a disease caused by smoking. Every smoker realizes the harms of tobacco, yet it’s extremely hard to quit it – some experts believe it’s even more addictive than heroin and cocaine. Researches show that only 4% of the people succeed in quitting tobacco smoking when they don’t use any medicinal aid. Moreover, about two-thirds of smokers who do quit for a while, eventually take up smoking again. We want to raise awareness of the potential dangers of smoking tobacco cigarettes. We encourage students to come up with a viable solution to help the smokers make a positive change in their lives. Your write-up has to show the people, who want to quit, a way out. You may also talk about e-cigarettes and vaporizers, and whether they can be a good choice in tobacco harm-reduction.”

Tips:

These are a few things the judges like to see in the essays:

  • Write an evidence-based essay.
  • Writing about a personal experience can give you an edge over the competitors.
  • Make sure your essay is original, succinct, and gives a clear, logical message.
  • If you think a picture or video will go well with your essay, use it by all means.

Prizes:

1st place – $1,900

2nd place – $700

3rd place – $400

Deadline: May 31

Don’t procrastinate and make sure you submit a well thought-out essay!
