First things first, take care of your mental and overall health to the best of your extent. It’s getting cold out there, and these are just some suggestions you may want to consider.

  1. When was the last time you gave yourself a pep talk? Consider waking up in the morning and stretching, first of all. Then, look at yourself in the mirror with your bedhead, while you’re still in your pajamas. After you have fulfilled your morning routine which calls you to be more alert, remember to give yourself an entire five minutes before you eat breakfast and begin to motivate yourself to “carpe diem,” talking yourself into having a brighter day and to count all your blessings. Encourage yourself to eat breakfast and share your thoughts with a friendly colleague.
  2. In between your classes, read up on ongoing health topics such as the monthly breast awareness checkups. Look into mammograms for older women attending college, what you need to know about updating your vaccination record and flu shots, how to cope with domestic violence if you are a survivor (whether you’re a male or female), and how to prepare for natural disaster. Build an emergency kit, prepare for your monthly checkups with your network of doctors, and be sure to make a commitment to exercise three times a week for at least thirty minutes per session. This simple routine will combat mental drainage and build your immune system.
  3. Make at least one Italian dish this fall and winter by filling it with tasty protein and veggies! This can be pasta or something simple like a Thanksgiving related form of food filled with natural sugars and nutrients. That way you’ll be more prepared once you have people over for holiday and celebratory dinners.
  4. Indulge in the natural sceneries by visiting small and large parks! Get out and get some fresh air for just a few minutes or studying in the open field can change your mentality.  You may be able to stay motivated by attending a yoga session or having a picnic in the park.

I hope you make a valiant effort this week to change up your schedule to improve your overall well-being and enjoy the second part of the fall semester!
