Scholarship Summary

The NAB Education holds an annual Freedom of Speech PSA contest in order to encourage students to explore the importance of free speech. Create a short PSA for your chance at a $2,500 scholarship.

 If you have video editing skills or a great idea, here’s your chance to show off your creativity. Create a 30-second PSA for your chance at $2,500! Read below for more info!

Eligibility

  • Part-time or full-time graduate and undergraduate students currently enrolled at a university or college or community/technical college

How to Apply

  • Create a 30-second television or radio PSA highlighting the importance of free speech
  • The closing line of the PSA must include these exact words:
    • “This message is brought to you by the NAB Education Foundation and the Broadcast Education Association.”

Deadline: Entries will be accepted April 1 – 30, 2016.

Prizes: Two winners (one from each category) will each receive a $2,500 scholarship.

Quick Tips

  • Keep your videos high-quality and make sure to stick to the theme of free speech.
  • Avoid the use of any copyrighted material as it will disqualify you from the scholarship. If you are unsure whether you have the right to use the material, be safe and do not use it.
  • Familiarize you with the topic of free speech and do research before you begin brainstorming PSA ideas!
  • Look up PSAs on YouTube for inspiration and watch tutorials online for ideas.
