BestColleges Launches Scholarships for Black Women in STEM

Published:

BestColleges, an online provider of education resources, has launched a $30,000 scholarship program to support Black women pursuing STEM careers.

“BestColleges is proud to announce this inaugural scholarship opportunity for Black women pursuing careers in STEM,” said Cobretti D. Williams, managing editor of BestColleges. “Statistics show that Black women continue to be an underrepresented group in STEM fields, especially in leadership roles. Our goal in launching this scholarship is to help Black women pursue their education with confidence knowing they have the financial support from BestColleges to succeed.”

The new initiative reflects BestColleges’ promise to “make a difference in education.”

The company will award five scholarships in the amount of $6,000 each in this inaugural year.

The scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students who will be enrolled in a STEM program at an accredited college or university in the United States for the 2023-24 academic year.

Applicants must also identify as a cisgender, transgender or gender non-conforming Black woman, be a legal resident of the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia and be at least 17 years of age.

To apply, those interested must write an essay on why they are pursuing a STEM degree or how they will impact the world through their contemplated STEM career. The essays must be original and not exceed 500 words.

Students who qualify can apply here. Applications are due by September 30, 2023.
