Scholarship Summary

Undergraduate students enrolled, or planning to enroll, in physics teacher preparation curricula and high school seniors entering such programs are eligible.

The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) offers the Barbara Lotze Scholarship for Future Physics Teachers, a scholarship designed to support students who are studying toward a career teaching physics at the high school level. In addition to the scholarship award, winning students will receive a complimentary AAPT Student Membership for one year. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years. 

Application Deadline: December 1

Award Amount: Up to $3,000 (renewable for up to 4 years)

Eligibility:  

  • Must be an undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited two-year college, four-year college or university, or a high school senior accepted for such enrollment
  • Must be pursuing or planning to pursue a course of study leading toward a career in physics teaching in high school
  • Must show promise of academic success
  • Must be a citizen of the United States

How to Apply: Interested students must complete an online application through the online portal at aapt.org. Applicants will be required to submit letters of recommendation in addition to other materials.
