10 Things to Do at the End of the Summer

It’s already August and most of us are sitting here thinking, “Where did the Summer go?”… The thought of even just hearing the word “August” is starting to sting a bit. Now that we have entered summer’s last month, we know that summer will rapidly come to a close. But, the summer season isn’t over quite yet and we still have summer-like weather well into October if you think about it. With still a month left of summer vacation, we can pack in the things that you still would like to do or that you neglected to do because time has gone by so quickly.

Here are the things you must do at summer’s end:

1. Get to the beach

I know some people might think you’re crazy if you didn’t get to the beach at least once this summer, but this is the case for a lot of people. You still have a bunch of weekends left so take out one day within these next few busy weeks and just make a day of it. Grab a few friends, pack a lunch, and enjoy the sunshine! You will really regret not having gone to the beach sooner…

2. Read a Book

You know that book that’s been sitting on your bedside table untouched for months? Well now is the time to start it! Once college rolls around you are going to remember how little downtime you actually have. You barely have enough time to read your books for class let alone a book just for fun. Curl up on your couch on a rainy day or read on the train on your way to work. Here’s another idea: hit two birds with one stone by reading a book at the beach!

3. See Your Friends

I know it seems as though you’re playing phone tag all summer when trying to make plans with your friends, but trust me you will regret it if you don’t see them at least once. Once school starts again, you run the risk of going another year without seeing them. Just try the best that you can to make plans to see them whether it is a quick coffee run or even just coordinating the same train time on your way  to or home from work.

4. Try That New Restaurant

I know you drive past that new restaurant in your town every day thinking I need to try it! Well, what’s stopping you? Again, this can be a great way to catch up with friends by grabbing dinner or even just grabbing a drink from the bar (for my 21 and over friends). You can’t let the summer pass you by without trying it.

5. Exercise

Some people think that because the summer is over, it is too late to start exercising. This is most definitely not the case, it is never too late to start. It is always ideal to have a good fitness routine no matter what time of the year it is. This is a great way to enjoy what nature has to offer by going on runs or walks outside. This is also a good opportunity to explore the online realm of fitness activities. There are so many quick workout videos that you can do in your dorm, so it is a great idea to start getting to know them now!

6. Listen to New Music

I’m not hating on that playlist you’ve been listening to all summer, but if it’s been on repeat since June I’m sure you’re sick of it by now too. Venture into new genres or artists! There’s tons of music that is out there that you don’t know about. You can share all these great new (or at least you think they’re new) music finds with your friends when you go back to school!

7. Buy a Piece of New Clothing

That dress or pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing down all summer… now’s the time to buy it! One of two reasons: Number One, you have been working so hard all summer and saving up your money so yes, treat yo self to those shoes. Number Two, now that it’s the end of the summer take complete advantage of those sales.  Letting that dress and those shoes sit idle all summer worked out on your end because they are now 30% off!

8. Save Your Money!

You might be saying to yourself, “Victoria, you just told me to “treat yo self” in number 8, what are you talking about?” Yes, you may think I’m crazy but hear me out: I want you to enjoy your summer and purchase the things you want to, but do it in moderation and know your limit. It is much harder to balance a job, school work, and clubs when you get back on campus so the more you save now, the less you have to worry about it this upcoming year.

9. Get Organized

If you’re like me, I can guarantee that you’ve been putting anything school related off until now. I’m not saying go out and rush to get everything in one fellow swoop, no, this will just stress you out even more. Just take a moment to gather your thoughts and make a list! You still have a chunk of the summer left so there is no need to go rush and get everything in one day! It’s nice to know what you currently have at home from the year before so you do not over-buy. Make a list of what you have and what you need.

10. Positive Vibes~

This is important no matter what time of the year it is. But, everyone is in a good mindset during the summer months, so it is best to be reminded of this now. Remain positive through every experience, good or bad, this upcoming year. Take these last few weeks to reflect on what you are doing now and what you would like to see yourself doing come the Fall.
