Introduction
The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) is an NCAA Division III athletic conference of ten full-time members located in Ohio, southwestern Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Formed in 1902, it is the oldest and most respected athletic conference in Ohio, as well as the oldest of its kind in the nation. The conference’s members all compete in Division III, the NCAA’s highest level of collegiate athletics competition, in a variety of sports including football, basketball, baseball, softball, and more.
History
The OAC was founded in 1902, making it the oldest athletic conference still in existence in Ohio and among the oldest in the country. The conference was originally formed out of the former Inter-Collegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives, which was created in 1898 and consisted of nine college faculty members from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. In its early years, the OAC was largely dominated by teams from Ohio, such as the University of Cincinnati, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Case Western Reserve University. Its first football championship was held in 1905, and its first basketball championship in 1911.

The OAC consists of 10 full-time members that compete in a variety of athletic events. The current members are Baldwin Wallace University, Capital University, Heidelberg University, John Carroll University, Marietta College, Mount Union University, Ohio Northern University, The College of Wooster, University of Mount Union, and Muskingum University.
Sports
The OAC offers over 20 sports for its members to compete in, making it one of the most diverse athletic conferences in the NCAA Division III. The conference offers sports such as football, basketball, baseball, softball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, track and field, and wrestling for its members. In addition, many of these sports have championships that the OAC offers held each year.

The OAC records boast six undefeated football seasons, 20 national champions, 209 individual and team NCAA tournament appearances, and 629 conference championships. Additionally, the conference has boasted 59 All-Americans and 30 Academic All-Americans.

As one of the oldest conferences in the nation, the OAC is no stranger to rivalries. There are numerous intra-conference rivalries, such as the John Carroll-Baldwin Wallace “Battle for the Rivalry” game, as well as cross-town rivalries such as the Wooster-Mount Union “War of the Roses” rivalry.
