Family Empowerment Scholarship

Amount: Varies. About: The Family Empowerment Scholarship (FES) aims to empower families and children in Florida to achieve their educational goals by providing two pathways: the Family Empowerment Scholarship Educational Options (FES EO) and the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES UA). The FES EO is available to Florida K-12 students, who can choose to receive either (a) financial assistance toward private school tuition and fees (the maximum scholarship amount is based upon the student’s grade level and county of residence) or (b) a $750 scholarship to cover their transportation to a public school in and out of their school district (if free transportation is not provided). The FES UA is available to Florida students – ages 3 through 12th grade, or up to age 22 – with special needs. A qualifying disability includes anaphylaxis, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, deaf or hearing-impaired, Down syndrome, dual sensory-impaired, emotional or behavioral disability, intellectual disability, language-impaired, muscular dystrophy, orthopedic impaired, Phelan-McDermid syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, rare disease (as defined by the National Organization for Rare Disorders), speech impairment, specific learning disability, spina bifida, traumatic brain injury, or Williams syndrome. Students ages 3-5 who are deemed “high risk” because of developmental delays may also qualify. Eligible families can apply for either the FES EO or FES UA (and annually renew) through an approved scholarship funding organizations (SFO) responsible for determining and distributing funding under the program.
