Monday Morning Survival Tips

Nothing is worse than waking up early on a Monday to attend a 3 hour long lecture. We lay in bed, stare at the ceiling and contemplate dropping out of college all together. Although they’re a struggle, Monday mornings are inevitable and it’s time that we all learn how to kick them in the butt. As a senior in college, these are are the tips I’ve learned over the years on how to survive those pesky Monday blues.

  1. Drink coffee – well yeah, DUH. Drink it up boys and girls. If you are Captain America, caffeine is your shield. If you buying coffee is too expensive, invest in a coffee maker. Not only will your bank thank you, you’ll avoid those infuriatingly long lines of zombie-like college students.
  2. Eat breakfast – I get it. No one wants to wake up 15 minutes earlier to eat in the morning but by eating, you’re providing your body with much needed energy. There’s no denying that waffles and bacon sound heavenly. Start your day off right with your favorite foods so you have a happy tummy and smile on your face. If you don’t have time to sit and eat, buy breakfast bars. I’m sure your professor won’t mind if you get your daily intake of fiber in his class.
  3. Shower – Like breakfast, showering in the morning requires that you wake up a little bit earlier. Although it’s not ideal, it’s a great way to wash away your grogginess and feel fresh. A quick splash of cold water will wake you right up. I can guarantee you won’t be yawning as you walk to class.
  4. Plan your outfit the night before – College students usually only wear sweatpants and t-shirts anyways so this shouldn’t take up too much of your time on Sunday nights. This will save you a good 10 minutes! That’s 10 extra minutes to snooze or type up that paper you completely forgot about.
  5. Tell yourself it’s going to be a good day – it may sound silly, but sometimes you really need to hear it. Not only does psychology suggest positivity leads to happier life, you’ll be able to spread your happiness with others. Wouldn’t that be swell? If everyone on campus was smiling at each other instead of shoving each other to get on the bus first?

No matter what, Mondays are going to be your least favorite day of the week. They don’t have to be totally painful if you just make the effort.

Good luck and enjoy your next Monday!
