This lifestyle significantly heightens the risk of heart disease, stroke and mental health issues. Addressing this epidemic, the American Heart Association (AHA) is calling on communities nationwide to participate in National Walking Day on Wednesday, April 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adopting healthier routines doesn\u2019t have to be overwhelming. According to Eduardo Sanchez, the AHA\u2019s chief medical officer for prevention, even the simplest of actions can make a profound difference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWalking is one of the easiest and most accessible ways to improve both physical and mental well-being,\u201d Sanchez said in a news release. &#8220;Even small steps can lead to big changes. By making movement a part of your day \u2014 whether that\u2019s walking your dog, picking a parking spot a little further away from the entrance, or strolling with family \u2014 you\u2019re investing in your heart health and improving your overall wellness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practical Tips for National Walking Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Invite your network:<\/strong> Walk with friends, family, or colleagues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Stay active while working:<\/strong> Take conference calls on the move if you&#8217;re working remotely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Involve pets: <\/strong>Walking your pet benefits both of you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Share your journey:<\/strong> Use #NationalWalkingDay on social media to inspire others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>End your day actively:<\/strong> Consider a family stroll after dinner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if walking isn&#8217;t feasible, alternative activities such as seated exercises or gentle stretching can help maintain an active lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regular physical activity, including walking, is essential for overall health and is a key component of the AHA&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart.org\/en\/healthy-living\/healthy-lifestyle\/lifes-essential-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Life\u2019s Essential 8\u2122<\/a> \u2014 a set of critical factors pursuing optimal cardiovascular health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AHA suggests at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity like brisk walking or gardening per week, or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activities such as running or aerobic dancing.
