The death of George Floyd death has inspired protests and triggered soul-searching conversations about the systemic racism and racial inequality in the United States. In addition to a number of other barriers, Black Americans face educational inequities from a young age. As a result, while more Black Americans are making it to college — from 31 percent in 2000 to 37 percent in 2018<\/a> — Black students with a bachelor’s degree owe $7,400 more<\/a> in student debt on average upon graduation than white their white peers, according to the Brookings Institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s help support Black students by creating scholarships for them!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recognizing this issue, organizations like the NAACP and the Jack and Jill Foundation of America offer scholarships to narrow the racial gap in education. But there\u2019s more that can be done, so we have made it our mission to convince companies to create scholarships for Black students as a way to support their educational dream. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We encourage all companies to give to this worthy cause, whether it\u2019s by sponsoring a scholarship or by donating to organizations that offer scholarships to Black students like the NAACP<\/a> and the Thurgood Marshall Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

List of Black Lives Matter Scholarships<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Here is a summary of scholarships that are being offered. We will update the list as new scholarships become available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ron Brown Scholarship<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In honor of the legacy of Ronald H. Brown, the Ron Brown Scholarship Program annually awards $40,000 scholarships<\/a> ($10,000 each year for four years) to 20 or more talented and economically-challenged African American high school seniors who show \u201ca keen interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship and global citizenship.\u201d Since the scholarship program started in 1996, more than 300 students have received the award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To apply, those interested must submit an extensive application that includes multiple essays, an official transcript, two letters of recommendation, and information about academic and financial status. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
