It’s true – today’s college students can’t live without\u00a0technology. BUT IT’S NOT THEIR FAULT. You see, nowadays,\u00a0so much of the “college experience” has shifted over to the digital domain– from\u00a0r<\/em>esearch databases to\u00a0paper\/assignment submissions<\/em>—\u00a0that not<\/span> using technology can be a serious hinderance to a student’s success. And\u00a0let’s be real: we already spend so much\u00a0time online (much more than is necessary), so\u00a0we might as well take full advantage of the available\u00a0resources.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here are my top 10 apps for productivity & organization, education & learning, finance & budgeting, and savings & shortcuts. Oh, and 3 apps that prompt goodwill!<\/span><\/p>\n

\ud83d\udccb Productivity & Organization<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

1. Google Drive<\/a> +\u00a0Google Calendar<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Google Drive is basically your virtual USB. I personally keep\u00a0everything<\/em>\u00a0on Google Drive, so this app is a must<\/em> for me. You can store not only your academic work (papers and essays from all your classes) but also your personal projects, writing samples, photos\/videos, and so much more!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Google Calendar is a lifesaver for the busy student who has to juggle between school, work, and extracurricular activities. When I was in undergrad, I used it\u00a0almost obsessively, integrating my school-, work- and social schedules and color coding everything. If you’re a visual person like me, Google Calendar will help you to\u00a0visualize your week, month, or\u00a0even a year in advance and help you stay on top of\u00a0things.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0app also syncs with\u00a0the desktop Google Calendar, so you don’t have to worry about working with or from a tiny screen. Do all the work on the desktop version, and reference the mobile app on the go!<\/span><\/p>\n

2. ToDoist<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ah, the to do list. There are many apps and programs for this, but ToDoist is good in that you can\u00a0<\/span>organize your tasks under projects and by due date.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You can also choose to receive\u00a0e-mail or\u00a0push notifications at the start of each day with the things you have to accomplish or tasks that are overdue. Additionally, you can set up recurring tasks (weekly, first day of every month, etc.), and the app will remind you\u00a0comes the deadline or due date. This app is so smart!<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Udemy<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

I love learning, whether it’s learning a new skill, a\u00a0new language or just new facts. If you are passionate about learning but don’t have a lot of time, you can learn on-the-go<\/span>\u00a0with Udemy’s mobile app, where you can\u00a0watch<\/span>\u00a0videos and access course documents directly from\u00a0your\u00a0device.<\/span>\u00a0With Udemy, you can learn: Programming, Entrepreneurship, Photography, Yoga, Marketing, Salsa, Cake Decorating, Design, and everything in between.<\/span><\/p>\n

+ If you are a commuter, you can totally squeeze in\u00a0a few lectures on your commute!<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Memrise<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Learning a new language can be challenging, but Memrise makes it fun and easy. Memrise focuses on helping you memorize words with\u00a0mnemonics,\u00a0<\/b>verbal explanations, pictures and lolcats.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Venmo is great. And everyone uses it. It’s perfect for when you have to split bills with friends or chip in money to buy a present for a mutual friend. Seriously, it’s never been easier to\u00a0pay or get paid, without\u00a0using bills! Plus,\u00a0it’s so easy to use that even my mom uses it.<\/span><\/p>\n

6. Chase Mobile App<\/a> (Mobile Banking App)<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

I am a Chaser and I use the Chase Mobile App\u00a0almost daily to check my balance, keep track of spendings, and transfer money. I also recently started using the Chase QuickDeposit feature, which allows you to\u00a0deposit checks without having to go to the bank – you simply take two\u00a0photos\u00a0of the check (front and back, signed), and w<\/span>ithin 24 hours, your check will either be approved or rejected (although\u00a0it’s hard to\u00a0get rejected\u00a0because the instructions are\u00a0super easy to follow).\u00a0<\/span>I would give this app a high rating (\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605) in terms of\u00a0both design and functionality.<\/span><\/p>\n

7. <\/span>Mint<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

I’ve never personally used this app before but\u00a0I’ve heard too\u00a0many great things\u00a0to not try it out. I’ve tried budgeting on my own before by\u00a0making a\u00a0google spreadsheet but\u00a0that did not last long. It was too hard to record\u00a0all my spendings and I got lazy. Luckily,\u00a0<\/span>Mint makes it much, much easier for you to track your spendings and\u00a0be on top of your budgeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

TUN Student Discounts, as the name suggests, finds\u00a0students discounts so they can save on\u00a0food, entertainment, fitness, beauty & more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

9. Fast Scanner – Android<\/a> | iPhone<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

I wish I knew about this app earlier \ud83d\ude2d! All those runs to the library to scan pages in the textbook… Anyhow, with this app, you\u00a0can scan notes, documents, and\u00a0receipts into PDF documents – all you have to do is snap a photo! You can then email the document to anyone and everyone.<\/span><\/p>\n

10.<\/span>\u00a0Easy Bib –\u00a0Android<\/a> | iPhone<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Worse than writing papers is doing the citations. Literally, they’re the last thing you want to do, but they’re also the\u00a0natural first step to writing any paper – after all, the\u00a0research comes before the writing. Anyhow,\u00a0<\/span>it’s\u00a0best to get citations\u00a0out of the way. Luckily, Easy Bib\u00a0makes that\u00a0first step not so painful\u00a0– you can create citations in a matter of seconds by scanning the\u00a0book barcode or using their\u00a0search\u00a0tool, in any format you’d like.

This app by Johnson & Johnson offers a fun and interactive platform\u00a0for raising\u00a0awareness\u00a0and\u00a0doing social good. Basically, Johnson & Johnson will donate\u00a0$1 to the cause of your choice for\u00a0every photo you share through the app. That $1 can be used to improve\u00a0infrastructure in a third world country or save a starving child right next door.<\/span><\/p>\n

13.\u00a0Share the Meal<\/a> <\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n
