But that doesn\u2019t mean you have to stop exercising.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Across the nation, gyms, personal trainers and workout companies and brands are posting free or discounted at-home exercise classes online, so that you can keep your blood flowing, your mind right and those extra pounds off, even while quarantined.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople are giving information, and so there\u2019s no reason why we shouldn\u2019t take advantage of it.\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/shannon.eberly\/?hl=en\">Shannon Eberly<\/a>, a personal trainer based in New York City and coach at Orangetheory Fitness.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eberly, herself, has started posting instructional videos to Instagram and Facebook showing her followers how to work out at home using everyday objects like detergent or Windex as weights. A lot of people don\u2019t have full equipment at their homes, Eberly said. And she\u2019s proving it\u2019s not necessary.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Companies and brands, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/orangetheory\/?hl=en\">Orangetheory<\/a>, where Eberly works, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/obe_fitness\/?hl=en\">Ob\u00e9 Fitness<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/barrys\/\">Barry\u2019s<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/aarmy\/\">AAarmy<\/a>, Outdoor Voices and more, are also utilizing social media sites like Instagram to make at-home workout videos free and widely accessible.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others are creating similar at-home workout videos and posting them to their websites and YouTube pages, among other mediums.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for cardio and strength workouts you can do while quarantined in your home, check out the free videos posted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossfit.com\/at-home\">Crossfit<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitnessblender.com\/videos\">Fitnessblender<\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If yoga is your thing and your studio is closed, check out the free classes online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corepoweryogaondemand.com\/keep-up-your-practice?utm_source=igs&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_campaign=keep-up-practice-yod-march-2020\">Corepower Yoga<\/a>, or go to YouTube and look for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/yogawithadriene\">Yoga with Adriene<\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you want to gain a better understanding of the science behind exercise and which type of exercise is right for you and your body type, check out this <a href=\"https:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/deeplink?id=FlzKaKJXnLc&amp;mid=40328&amp;murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.coursera.org%2Flearn%2Fhacking-exercise-health\">online course<\/a> taught by exercise psychologists at McMaster University.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Don\u2019t let COVID-19 keep you from exercising<\/strong><br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter which type you prefer, exercise is a key component of a healthy life, and you shouldn\u2019t use the coronavirus quarantine as an excuse to become a couch potato.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are going to be very sedentary in the next couple of weeks, so it&#8217;s really important to keep active and stay moving during this time,\u201d explained Eberly. \u201cIf you are healthy right now, if you\u2019re feeling good, absolutely exercise as much as you can from home, because that\u2019s only going to help your immune system and make you stronger.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut if you are feeling symptoms or you\u2019re not feeling well, exercise is not going to be the best thing for you to do right now,\u201d she added.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notably, even if you\u2019re not physically ill, being quarantined can take a toll on your mental and emotional health, as you&#8217;re forced to spend more time inside sitting down without many face-to-face social interactions.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exercise can help reduce those negative feelings.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cExercise naturally produces endorphins,\u201d said Eberly. \u201cEndorphins make us happy.\u201d&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exercise is \u201ca great way to keep ourselves active and keep ourselves feeling good while we are kinda cooped up,\u201d she added.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/joshuaspodek.com\/bio\">Joshua Spodek<\/a>, who holds a Ph.D. in astrophysics and an MBA from Columbia University, knows a thing or two about the benefits of exercise. Spodek has swum across the Hudson River and done nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/joshuaspodek.com\/burpees-unbeatable-for-fitness-and-my-best-habit-the-series\">150,000 burpees<\/a> over the past 10 years.\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve found that there are three important parts of life,\u201d said Spodek. \u201cAnd if these aren\u2019t together, then everything else is secondary. It\u2019s a healthy diet, vigorous exercise and the right amount of sleep every night. If those aren\u2019t there, I just find that nothing else works. You get sick more easily and you don\u2019t concentrate as much.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being an avid exerciser, Spodek tends to stay away from the gym. Most of his workouts are body-weight centric, freeing him to workout whenever and wherever he wants.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To Spodek, being detached from the gym is a good thing. It has saved him thousands of dollars over the years and has enabled him to work out on six different continents.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo me, the COVID virus changes nothing about my exercises,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although his workout routines vary throughout the week, Spodek\u2019s go-to exercise is undoubtedly the burpee. He does them every single day.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Burpees, endorsed by CrossFit trainers throughout the world, are an amazing all-body workout. And they&#8217;re perfect for those who prefer to work out on their own, without any instruction from a trainer or video.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt costs no money,\u201d said Spodek. \u201cIt requires no equipment. You don\u2019t need a spotter. There is very little risk of injury. It doesn\u2019t matter the weather. It doesn\u2019t matter the time of day.
