Named in honor of Vermont Senator Robert Stafford for his contribution to higher education, Stafford Loans were available to eligible undergraduate, graduate and professional students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stafford Loans are <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/help-center\/answers\/article\/stafford-loan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">no longer available<\/a> through the Federal Family Education Loan Program as of July 1, 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Stafford loans are still often used informally to refer to <strong>Direct Subsidized Loans<\/strong> and <strong>Direct Unsubsidized Loans<\/strong> made under the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/understand-aid\/types\/loans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">William D.
