We\u2019ve officially reached that point in the semester where college students are struck with \u201cgood weather syndrome\u201d.<\/span> They trudge to class like zombies, not bothering to care that they\u2019re 15 minutes late. They groan as they look longingly out the window, wishing they could be sitting in the grass instead of suffering through another hour of lecture about medieval literature. Frat bros are outside, throwing frisbees and wearing shirts that are way too tight. The Uggs are put away, the flip flops come out. It seems like everyone is a deep, whimsical trance. Why? Because summer is almost here.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sure, summer should be carefree and relaxing; we all know we deserve it after a long semester! But the couple of months we\u2019re given between semesters can actually be really productive.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what you should be doing this summer if you\u2019re a college student:<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n
    \n
  1. Internships<\/span> – they look great on r\u00e9sum\u00e9s! (Note: you apply for summer internships during the winter\/early spring so plan ahead.)<\/li>\n
  2. Getting a part-time job<\/span> – because who doesn\u2019t like a little extra cash in their pocket? This is also a great way to meet new people and network.<\/li>\n
  3. Updating your<\/span> r\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/a> – <\/i>make sure it\u2019s up to date and relevant to the jobs you\u2019re applying for.<\/li>\n
  4. Looking into<\/span> volunteering opportunities<\/a> – not only are employers impressed by volunteer work, it\u2019s also a valuable and eye-opening experience!<\/li>\n
  5. Taking advantage of free events<\/span> – summer is great because there are always free concerts, plays or sporting events happening at parks and community centers. They\u2019re entertaining, educational and enlightening!<\/li>\n
  6. Planning for the future<\/span> – this can include deciding a career path, or looking into graduate schools. You\u2019re stressed enough during the school year so take advantage of your clear mind during the summer to make important decisions.<\/li>\n
  7. Staying focused on goals<\/span> – I know you\u2019re tempted to let loose and forget anything remotely related to your major<\/a>, but stay on track.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I know what you\u2019re probably thinking: \u201cum, none of this sounds fun\u201d.<\/span> I get it but trust me, you\u2019ll thank yourself when it\u2019s time to go back to school. <\/span><\/p>\n

    Once you\u2019re done adding references to your r\u00e9sum\u00e9, reward yourself by going to the boardwalk. Whether it\u2019s the Santa Monica pier or the Jersey shore, grab your friends and indulge in boardwalk snacks. You\u2019re never too old for fried oreos and a ferris wheel. <\/span><\/p>\n

    While you\u2019re out having fun, remember that <\/span>TUN<\/span><\/a><\/span> helps you find the best student discounts. Yep. <\/span>You can use those in the summer time too. <\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
