No surprise here. Although Manhattan has plenty of libraries, NYPL is hands down the best because of how humongous it is. There are more spots to sit than you can count and the architecture is breathtaking. This library has plenty of space, sunlight and resources at your disposal. Plus, free wi-fi. Score.

Washington Square Park

I obviously wouldn’t suggest studying here if it’s chilly outside, but this is the perfect spring semester study spot. The arch is awesome to look at and the fountain always provides a nice breeze. With plenty of room to hang out, this is the best place to meet up with a study group, enjoy the sun and people watch.

American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) – Milstein Hall of Ocean Life

Okay, so this one might sound weird at first. AMHN is home to a 94 feet long, 21,000-pound fiberglass model of a blue whale. Wild, I know. Once you reassure yourself that the whale will not fall on you and kill you, you can do what thousands of museum goers do every day: sit under the whale. The room is well lit and if you don’t mind the chatter of people around you, this is a perfect spot. Sometimes I just lay on the huge mat and read for hou rs. It’s extremely peaceful. Only downside: you need to pay admission to the museum but student admission is only 17 dollars with a valid student ID!

The Ludlow Hotel – Garden

Fun fact: most hotel lobbies are open to the public.
