Today marks the third anniversary of the launch of the <\/span>HeForShe<\/span><\/a> movement, which was created by <\/span>UN Women<\/span><\/a>, the UN entity for gender equality and empowerment of women. <\/span><\/p>\n

The movement takes a unique approach in that it specifically includes men and boys as partners in women\u2019s fight for gender equality around the world, motivating them to become agents of change and acknowledge that they, too, have something to gain when gender equality is achieved. <\/span><\/p>\n

It is therefore fitting that the 30 global leaders who had embraced the movement — all men — should <\/span>\u00a0meet<\/span> today <\/span>at the <\/span>HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 Parity Report Launch<\/span> event in New York City <\/span>to share their progress in advancing gender equality. <\/span><\/p>\n

The HeForShe movement launched <\/span>IMPACT 10X10X10<\/span><\/a>, a program calling on 30 global university, business and government IMPACT champions to bring about real change from top-down. Each sector has 10 leaders who serve as visible champions for change and commit to bring progress within their own organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

The IMPACT champions were selected based on their reputation for strong ethical practices, their demonstrated excellence in public service, their global reach and relevance, and their willingness to use their full footprint and influence to drive and inspire change across their sector. <\/span><\/p>\n

Current IMPACT university champions include two U.S. universities — Georgetown University and Stony Brook University — as well as Kenyatta University (Kenya), Nagoya University (Japan), Sciences Po (France), University of Hong Kong, University of Leicester (UK), University of <\/span>S\u00e3o <\/span>Paolo (Brazil), University of Waterloo (Canada), and University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa). <\/span><\/p>\n

Today\u2019s event was attended by all IMPACT university champions other than Kenyatta University. <\/span><\/p>\n

Five heads of state were present: the presidents of Malawi, Romania, Rwanda and Finland and the Prime Minister of Japan. <\/span><\/p>\n

Lastly, corporate leaders from Electronic Arts, PwC International Ltd., Barclays, Ko\u00e7 Holding, AccorHotels, and Vodafone were also present. <\/span><\/p>\n

UN Women was represented by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, its Under-Secretary-General & Executive Director.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stories of progress shared<\/b><\/h2>\n

Several IMPACT champions shared their stories today — the progress they\u2019ve made, the hurdles they\u2019ve faced, the solutions they\u2019ve found, and their plans for pushing gender equality forward in their organization.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
