But we all know that this will come back to bite us later (or <em>soon<\/em>, like that approaching deadline). They are a good mixture of discipline and grace. &#8221; player-type=&#8221;collapse&#8221; override-embed=&#8221;false&#8221;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">So&#8230; what&#8217;s the formula to getting work done peacefully? <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><em><strong>A healthy balance between&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>discipline&nbsp;and&nbsp;grace.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What do I mean by this?&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Well, we all know&nbsp;that&nbsp;knowing the right thing&nbsp;doesn&#8217;t&nbsp;necessarily mean that we&#8217;ll do those things&#8230; This proves that <strong>discipline is necessary, but not sufficient<\/strong>.&nbsp;And this is where grace comes in.&nbsp;Having grace&nbsp;on&nbsp;yourself&nbsp;is basically <strong>accepting this truth<\/strong> (that our actions, choices and decisions aren&#8217;t always a good reflection of our intellect), but still <strong>choosing to have<\/strong> <strong>hope<\/strong>. In other words, grace is the ability &#8212; yes, the <em>ability <\/em>&#8212; to not be so hard on yourself (<em>which can be very&nbsp;hard for some<\/em>)! Grace is what will rekindle our desire to pursue the right thing (that is, studying, in this case).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">When overwhelmed with the workload or simply lost in the&nbsp;world of procrastination, try the following tips. They&nbsp;are a good&nbsp;mixture of discipline and grace.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>Study better, not more!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"1942\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tun.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/How-to-Study-Better.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32863\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Study for 30 minutes at a time.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Apparently,&nbsp;our brain only <em>effectively<\/em> absorbs information from the first and last 15 minutes of \u201cstudying.\u201d&nbsp;This means that everything in between will likely be forgotten&nbsp;(because they don&#8217;t quite make it into our long-term memory). <strong>So why spend hours and hours studying if only a fraction of it will actually be retained? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Solution<\/span>: Study for 30 minutes at a time to minimize your studying time and maximize the effectiveness.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Break. It. Up!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The whole is equal to the sum of its parts, yes, but tackling the individual parts is much easier than tackling the whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, <strong>breaking down a big assignment into small assignments will make the task a whole lot easier,&nbsp;doable and manageable!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For example<\/em>, instead of writing in your planner&nbsp;\u201cwork on research paper\u201d on a specific day,<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">break it up into specific (and realistic) steps\/stages<\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"text-align: left;\">Monday &#8211; get sources and gather data<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"text-align: left;\">Tuesday &#8211; pick out quotes to use<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"text-align: left;\">Wednesday &#8211; summarize articles<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"text-align: left;\">Thursday &#8211; draft an outline<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"text-align: left;\">Friday &#8211; write introduction<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"text-align: left;\">Saturday &#8211; write (3) body paragraphs<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"text-align: left;\">Sunday &#8211; write conclusion<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Set a Timer (for 30 minutes) and solely focus on a (single) task.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You know that thing (assignment) that you can&#8217;t get yourself to start? Well there&#8217;s only one solution to that: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tun.com\/blog\/why-procrastinate-increase-productivity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stop procrastinating and just get to it<\/a>!<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>We all know that procrastination leads to more procrastination and it comes back to bite us. So just get started! Set a timer for 30 minutes and JUST DO IT. So what if you&#8217;re only able to write one sentence?<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">That&#8217;s still better than having nothing.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Take. A. Break<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Having an incentive is always a good idea (&amp; a good incentive in and of itself). After 30 minutes of studying, treat yourself to some chocolate chip cookies or icecream. Do some yoga poses. Watch an episode of your favorite show. Take a quick, 10-minute power nap. Do whatever you have to &#8220;refuel.&#8221; However,&nbsp;when you&#8217;re in that 30-minute zone (see #3), DON&#8217;T do any of these things.<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">These are meant to be rewards, not distractions.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Sit at a desk.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sitting at a desk when studying is very important for two reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1- Physically &#8211; sitting at a desk will ensure correct (or better) posture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2- Psychologically &#8211; your posture will signal to your brain that you&#8217;re supposed to be studying whereas if you&#8217;re on your bed, your brain might think that it&#8217;s time for sleep.<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">Remember, your body usually follows directions from your brain!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Study with books.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Avoid the computer\/laptop\/tablet if possible. There are just too many distractions, even if you use site-blocking and\/or productivity apps to limit your distractions. And while&nbsp;it&#8217;s true that nowadays you can&nbsp;highlight, underscore, and mark passages on e-books, there&#8217;s still&nbsp;something (magical) about studying with <em>physical<\/em> books that studying online just doesn&#8217;t&nbsp;cut.
