This is exactly the purpose of the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingscholars.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">King Scholar Leadership Program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students accepted into the program attend Dartmouth for four years without incurring any costs. The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingscholars.com\/about\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> covers not just fees and room and board, but also \u201chealth insurance, a new computer in the first year, and annual travel between Dartmouth and the student\u2019s home country.\u201d It\u2019s an incredible opportunity for those students who qualify. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Who should apply?<\/strong>\u00a0The program is <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingscholars.com\/about\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">looking specifically<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for students who are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Involved in their communities;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Passionate about creating positive change;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interested in alleviating poverty in their own countries;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Capable of succeeding at a top U.S. university;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Driven to succeed in whatever they do; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proficient in English.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">King Scholars will receive mentoring as well as leadership training.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In their first year, King Scholars will go through a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dartmouth.edu\/~fysep\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pre-orientation program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> designed to help first-generation students succeed and have upperclass students as a mentor. They are expected to participate in a variety of internships, networking events and more. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon graduation, King Scholars are expected to return to their home country and work on easing the burden of poverty in their community. They will be supported by an extensive alumni network supported by Dartmouth in their efforts to help the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">International students who are eligible for the program should <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/admissions.dartmouth.edu\/apply\/choose-your-path\/global-dartmouth\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">apply to Dartmouth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but do not have to apply separately for the scholarship. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students interested in the program are also encouraged to send in <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingscholars.com\/recommend-a-scholar\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recommendations from a mentor, teacher, or other leader in their community<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> along with their initial application to the college.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">King Scholars have been given this terrific opportunity to get an education from Dartmouth for free, which will equip them with the necessary skills to help their community overcome poverty, thanks to Dottie and Bob King, alumni of Dartmouth, who founded this program in 2012. The couple is heavily involved in reducing extreme poverty all across the world.
